Review: What the #$*! Do We Know!?

What the #$*! Do We Know!? (2004)
What the Bleep Do We Know!?

From Netflix.com: The neurological processes and "quantum uncertainty" of life are explored in this film. Thrust from her mundane life into an Alice in Wonderland-like world, Amanda (Marlee Matlin) must develop a brand-new perception of the world and the people she interacts with. Interviews with various experts are interspersed throughout the film, which combines narrative, documentary and animation. Elaine Hendrix, John Ross Bowie and Armin Shimerman also star.

This movie was just weird. The movie came across more as some mystic religion than science. It tried talking about new theories and a new way of thinking but somehow did not do it well.

Maybe I am biased by the very excellent Nova special on string theory called The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene. This was filled with science, especially the one part of science I believe is most necessary: credible testimony from leading scientists. It also had math (albeit dumbed down for people like me), examples, experiments, and both good and bad hypotheses and theories on the subject.

What the Bleep Do We Know!? did none of these things. It wanted to give you a mind-opening experience, yet gave you nothing to really get your head around. It seemed to be more of the poor young girl that is the main character having a nervous breakdown and needed this "religious" experience to come to terms with herself. With the string theory program, one could still be in a bad mood yet understand the core principles.

I would love to hear what other people have to say about this.
