The other half of the stack

While grading papers today as Madison slept, I put in the second installment of the wildly sensational The Thin Man series entitled After the Thin Man. This movie flies under the radar even though it is twice as good as the first. First of all, it is much more humorous with the events surrounding the murder. The scene with the dog Asta (a regular clue in crossword puzzles is the name of this fox terrier) chasing after another dog is flipping funny, especially when looking at a 1936 perspective. Plus, it has the incomparable Jimmy Stewart playing a very early and good role. It no doubt got him noticed because while he had been in movies before, this is before his big ones that we all know and love.

(On a side note, I have an MP3 file of an old time radio program called The Six Shooter, a short-lived but great program that starred Stewart. He was a fantastic voice. Leave a comment with your email and I will send it to you. It is well worth the listen.)

Now I am going through the second half of the stack. I am already picking out items to talk about on Monday. It is truly amazing how many don't capitalize the beginning of a sentence or punctuate it. Common words are being misspelled. (This could have some due to the fact that they don't read on a regualr basis and therefore never see these words in print, but I digress. I will bring that up in a future post.)

Here comes the next Thin Man movie on my tape I taped off of TCM last year. Another Thin Man. Nick and Nora have a baby and are still out solving crime. Great stuff.
